Where emptiness and structure meet, design has room to breathe

Source

In every design there is a return to the source. Not always to a place, but a feeling: the glimmer of light on water, the warmth of a childhood memory, the silence between two lines. The source is what breathes life into form, what makes a room more than walls and objects. It is the thread that connects emptiness with meaning, the unseen pattern flowing through all creation. To follow the source is to design with honesty, leaving space for clarity, beauty and belonging.

’When I look back, I can see the origin of my journey in design. It was not in books or in studies, but in the quiet presence of my childhood home and family. My parents implicitly offered me a world of creativity—in the way they valued light in the objects they cherished, in the stories that lived within our walls. Their gestures, small yet profound, taught me to see beauty where others might walk past it. That openness, that sense of possibility, became the source from which I still create today. Every design I shape carries a trace of that beginning—the gift of seeing the world not as it is, but as it could become.

The image, captured by my father, holds more than light and landscape; it holds the essence of his vision. During what he called his photo safaris, he roamed with patience and wonder, framing moments others might overlook. Each photograph was carefully developed by his own hands, a labour of love and devotion. In this frame, I see not just the wild beauty of the world, but the quiet magic of someone who taught me to pay attention, to wait, and to create with care. His work reminds me that every detail carries meaning, and that the source of inspiration often lies in how deeply we observe.

The illness and passing of my daughter opened depths in my life I had never known before. In the shadow of loss, I discovered a new dimension of love, presence, and awareness. Her brief life became a profound source, a quiet, enduring inspiration that shapes how I create, how I see and how I connect with others.

In the space of that heartache, I came to feel the power of human connections: the gentle support of others, the unspoken understanding, the true, most authentic form of connection. Even in her absence, she continues to teach me about the beauty of fragility, the strength of empathy and the power of human connections. This, for me, is a cherished, reliable source as well as a compass to guide me through life.‘
