We think in generalities, but we live in detail
Alfred N. Whitehead

‘In my work as an interior designer, attention to detail is an act of care and, at its best, an art form. It’s never about design for its own sake. As I see it, designing is a way of creating meaningful spaces, where every element is intentional and every choice contributes to a greater whole.’ It begins with an intuitive eye and develops through the quiet decisions that shape how a space feels—choices made not in isolation, but in harmony with one another. From the curve of a bespoke banister to the softness of a handwoven textile, every detail matters.
The result is a deeply coherent environment, where removing even a single element might disrupt the space’s rhythm. To achieve this, Roelfien curates a network of skilled artisans whose craftsmanship brings a tactile intelligence and emotional richness to each project. ‘I believe that a space must speak to all the senses, not just the visual and tactile, but also the atmospheric, the felt, the remembered. The scent of raw timber, the sound of footsteps on Carrara marble, the elegance of hand-applied passementerie, all become part of the story. True beauty lies not in what demands attention, but in what rewards it.’ This level of detailed design requires collaboration with craftsmen who share her devotion to nuance. From hand-worked concrete tiles by Novel Grey to artisanal parchment and eggshell inlays created with Qorate Studio, not to mention the masterful stonemasons at Solid Nature, Roelfien brings together artistry and natural materials in a dialogue of texture and form.

True beauty lies not in what demands attention, but in what rewards it.
True attention touches all the senses: sight, touch, even smell, creating rooms that are not just seen, but deeply felt. Inspired by this multisensory philosophy, she has developed a distinctive interior fragrance in collaboration with Nose & Partners. Much like Roelfien’s approach to interiors, a great nose is driven by a relentless curiosity and sensitivity to nuance, always exploring new combinations that reveal hidden dimensions. A customised premium scent gives identity to a location and enhances the aesthetic perception. It can lend warmth and softness to minimalist rooms, or make already rich interiors feel even richer.
‘I was looking for a scent that is soft and a little powdery, creating a comforting and calming effect that brings a sense of safety and enveloping cosiness, like being wrapped in a blanket. At the same time, it has a slightly seductive and intimate mood thanks to its warm and deep undertones. It is characterised by Tonka bean, Iris root, Frankincense bark, and Galbanum stems.’ These ingredients are rich in aroma, layered in texture, and stimulate a modern yet introspective mood, presenting a natural extension of Roelfien’s sensory interiors.
