This newly built villa feels as if it has always been here, but nothing could be further from the truth. Lavish aesthetics, opulent materials, glamorous lighting, and an exuberant use of colour transport this extravagant residence near the North Sea coast back to the Roaring Twenties, albeit with a distinctly modern sensibility.

Wowed by Roelfien’s work at Salon Residence in Laren, the client gave the designer carte blanche for the interior. The only guideline: to exceed the limits of imagination. Creativity flows freely through the villa’s eighteen rooms, each featuring a coloured ceiling that immediately evokes a sense of intimacy.

It’s hard to pick out highlights, as each room is a work of art in its own right. From the majestic wooden staircase that spirals upwards and wraps around the ceiling, breathing life into an otherwise plain hall, to the extraordinary kitchen, partly disguised as a bar, you might expect to find in a boutique hotel lobby, each space is a carefully curated composition of materials, textures, and design gestures. Together, they speak to a life well lived.

The bold green-and-white geometric tiles in the main bathroom, which features a standalone brass bathtub as centrepiece, echo the black-and-white patterned flooring in the kitchen as well as the Versailles-patterned parquet in the living room. There, handmade cognac-toned tiles from Quintalisque surround the mantelpiece. In the hallway, the discerning eye will spot the dog-sized opening in the marble skirting, created specifically for the villa’s smallest family member.

Closer inspection reveals a deliberate relationship between colours, bringing balance and harmony to the luxurious home.
