Station Building
Tracks of Time
In the heart of Echteld, a Dutch village near Tiel, stands this former railway station. Its original canopy stretches confidently towards the track. The reimagined main house once acted as a private gateway for noblewomen boarding the train to Paris. Now a contemporary family residence, it tells new, exciting stories, while showing respect for its past. The original oak floor in the living room bears the scars of wartime occupation, when German soldiers chopped wood here.

The original panelling still lines the walls, and the mouldings have been meticulously restored to their original detail. Whilst the history is tangible, it’s never overbearing. Belgian bluestone floor tiles add a tactile layer of old-world craftsmanship, while contemporary furniture brings colour and contrast into the conversation. Nothing is sanitised. Even the route from the station to the village’s castle still bears its historical name: the lane to Paris. It’s a fitting metaphor for the house itself, a place that recognises its origins while opening its doors to a new destination.
